SEUUMA - Spring Retreat

Spring Retreat Focus:

“Self-Compassion & Shame-Resilience”

March 9 - 12, 2020

Join colleagues from the Southeast UUMA Chapter for a time of self-care and personal reflection.    Embodied practices will complement sessions based on the shame-resilience curriculum developed by Dr. Brene Brown.

We all know that we need to take care of ourselves so that we can care for others.   Negative coping can take a toll on our physical health as well as our capacity for compassion.  It can also impact our ability to be in relation with our ministerial colleagues. As members of the UUMA, we are all working to improve collegial connections and the way we hold each other accountable.  One of the ways we can do this is to strengthen our ability to face shame.

“Connections--A Shame-Resilience Curriculum”

Each session (facilitated by one of our colleagues) includes a short video of Dr. Brown followed by reflection and group discussion.  This program is associated with one of Dr. Brown’s books: “I Thought It Was Just Me (but it isn’t)”. We will not refer to the book, and it’s not required reading.  But if you want to read it before you come, it may help you to get more out of the sessions.

Self-Care Practices

Local guest practitioners will offer sessions on therapeutic music and qi-going.  On Wednesday afternoon, you will have a choice of various activities. Some of these sessions will require advance sign-up, a fee, or free-will offering.  Some of you may choose to take a long nap! But in keeping with the spirit of this retreat on self-care/self-compassion, please make an effort to plan the week so that you don’t have to use this time to do church work.

Sign-in sheets for the Song Bath will be available at Registration.

What to Bring

In addition to the packing list that The Mountain provides, please bring a yoga mat and comfortable clothes for qi-gong.   If you want to do arts & crafts, bring supplies if you want to share your hobby with others.

Offering Your Gifts

Please consider leading an early morning practice (7am on Tue,Wed or Thr), worship (Tue morning, Wed morning, Wed evening, or Thr morning).  Please orient these worship times to the topic of self-compassion--share your practices with us.
