Senior High Farm Camp

June 9 - 22, 2024

Our Senior High Farm Camp 2024 is a 2-week-long overnight camp program for youth ages 15 to 17 years. Campers participating in Farm Camp will stay in cabins and will spend their specialized time each day learning about different aspects of sustainable farming and living in addition to traditional camp and outdoor activities. They will join MountainCamp for morning circle, field time, meals, as well as other enriching group activities.

We are keenly aware that modern society and our reliance on technology and media keep most young people at a distance from their food sources. There is a diminishing awareness of the importance of our region's agricultural significance and history. We are eager to provide a fun farm experience to address this need.

Campers will learn where their food comes from and how to evaluate their relationships with food through enriching experiences. Including:

  • Starting Plants From Seed

  • Planting Starts of Various Crops

  • Harvesting Produce

  • Forging Wild Gourmet Mushrooms

  • Crafting with Medicinal Plants and Mushrooms

  • Learning what is required to care for a lively coop of chickens and ducks.

  • Composting

Last year our highschool kids asked for 2 things to be changed about their program the first being a longer session and the second being the addition of real farm work. This year with our older kids we will be trying something new by implementing scheduled “Work Days”.

Farm Camp falls right in the heat of our summer production. This creates the perfect opportunity for our kids to get a break from classroom-style programming and into real hands-on experience working a small farm. These days will still include all of the shared time with our Mountain Camp as well as evening programs but will provide them with a chance to experience Farm Life.

Spending much time outside experiencing our natural surroundings, they will learn about wild plants, mushrooms, and other wildlife indigenous to the Highlands area.

In addition to learning about farming as a lifestyle, campers will learn about the business side of community agriculture by participating in our local farmer's markets. Natural crafts and art activities will also be a part of the Farm Camp experience, in keeping with our MountainCamp design and culture. Kids love the Many Hands Peace Farm and our MountainCamps, so this is the perfect combination for our 43rd year of summer camps!
