Congregational Leaders Retreat with UUA Staff
September 6 - September 8
Braving Space – Workshop
How do we identify our deepest values? How do we recognize the things in us that get in the way of our living out those values? How do we amplify our deepest values in the world? How do we know what the value is that we need to focus in on to make ourselves and the world a better place? Are we afraid?
Connie remembers…”Years ago I came to the Mountain for a workshop led by Professor Til Evans. It was the first time that someone challenged me to practice vulnerable leadership. I was changed by this experience. Over and over again people tell us that in order to be vulnerable they need to be safe. The issue is that what is safe for one person might not be safe for another. Instead of striving for safety, let’s create space where we can be brave together. Space where we can bring our whole selves’ gifts and flaws. Space where we can be genuine and vulnerable. Space where our deepest values can be identified and named. Space where we can explore the things in our lives that get in the way of amplifying those values.
I long to be in such a space where we can talk about deep things. Where we can disagree and still love each other. I long to be in a space where we are not playing politics nor afraid to be ourselves. Come and join Rev. Qiyamah Rahman, Kathy McGowan and me in creating a brave space where we can go deep together, where no topic is taboo and discomfort will be leaned into and push through. Come to be whole and held in the arms of community as we talk of our deepest values, our fears, our spiritually deepening and our evolving. Come let’s learn to be amplifiers of all that we hold most dear.”
